The Role
The Researcher: Environmental Affairs is responsible for providing strategic, evidence-based research support to Parliamentary Members and Committees. The role supports Parliament’s oversight, legislative, public, and international participation functions with a focus on environmental affairs. The incumbent will also provide specialised research to Senior Management, contributing to informed decision-making in matters related to natural resource management, sustainability, and environmental governance.

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

Matric (Senior Certificate)
-
Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in one of the following or a related field:

Environmental Management
-
Natural Resource Management
-
Ecology
-
Forestry
-
Sustainability
-
Wildlife Management
-
Experience:
-
Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant applied research experience within the natural resource governance and environmental policy sector
Knowledge and Skills:
-
In-depth understanding of environmental governance systems and legislation
-
Knowledge of sustainable resource management practices
-
Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of national, provincial, and local government in environmental management
-
Familiarity with international environmental agreements and frameworks
-
Strong proficiency in research methodology, policy analysis, and the production of briefing papers and reports
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex environmental issues for diverse audiences
-
Experience in supporting Parliamentary Committees or policy-making bodies in the environmental field
-
Ability to conduct interdisciplinary research addressing ecological, social, and economic dimensions of environmental issues

Project planning and time management skills to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
