Position: IT Portfolio Manager (eCommerce)

Join one of South Africa’s top retail brands as an IT Portfolio Manager – eCommerce. You’ll lead digital strategy and delivery across multiple online platforms (web and mobile), ensuring smooth, innovative, and customer-focused experiences across all Mr Price divisions.
This role drives eCommerce success by managing tech projects, working with internal teams and external partners, and making sure digital solutions support business growth.
The Role
As the eCommerce Portfolio Manager, you’ll:
Strategy & Planning

Turn IT strategies into practical eCommerce roadmaps

Stay up to date with eCommerce and tech trends
-
Align digital goals with business needs across Mr Price divisions
Project & Delivery Management
-
Oversee all eCommerce projects across brands (Apparel, Home, Sport, Money, Cellular, Sheet Street, Miladys)
-
Manage product lifecycles – from planning and testing to going live

Support continuous improvement of customer experience and online performance
Team & Vendor Leadership

Lead cross-functional teams (tech, operations, marketing, etc.)

Manage and grow internal talent
-
Build strong vendor partnerships for cost-effective, high-value delivery

Ensure third-party solutions and services meet deadlines and quality standards
Innovation & Performance

Discover and apply new digital tools and innovations
-
Track platform performance and make improvements
-
Plan for high-traffic periods like Black Friday to ensure system reliability
Risk & Change Management

Identify and manage risks
-
Ensure all changes and updates are implemented smoothly

Comply with legal, security, and internal policy requirements
Operations & Support

Own support and stability of key digital products

Monitor uptime and fix recurring issues

Maintain budget control and cost-efficiency
Requirements
Experience & Knowledge
-
5–10 years in eCommerce, digital product, or IT project/portfolio management
-
2–3 years in a leadership or cross-functional role
-
Experience managing multiple projects across large or multi-brand companies
-
Knowledge of platforms like Magento 2, Shopify Plus, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Oracle ATG
Technical Skills

Familiarity with eCommerce systems like:

Order management, Click & Collect, Courier Integration

Fulfilment operations and warehouse processes
-

Experience with mobile apps, PWAs, or React-based solutions
-
Agile tools: JIRA, Trello, Slack, Asana

Working with developers, designers, QA teams

Web analytics: Google Analytics, Hotjar, Tableau or other BI tools

Basic knowledge of SQL, CSS, JavaScript

Experience with integrating eCommerce platforms with ERP, CMS, OMS via APIs
Marketing & CX Tools (Bonus)

SEO, SEM strategies

Tools like Nosto, Klevu, Yotpo for product recommendations, search, and reviews
