Job Description
Kingswood College, a prestigious independent co-educational school in Makhanda (Grahamstown), Eastern Cape, is seeking a passionate and qualified Senior School History Teacher / Head of Department to join its academic staff from 1 January 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative educator to lead the History Department and inspire a love of the subject across the senior grades.

The Role
We invite applications from experienced History educators who are motivated to teach and lead with purpose. The successful candidate will not only teach History at the Senior School level but will also assume Head of Department (HOD) responsibilities—ensuring curriculum excellence, supporting staff development, and contributing to the broader school life.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach History to senior school learners with passion, creativity, and academic rigour.

• Lead the History Department by overseeing curriculum implementation, assessment planning, and teacher support.

• Promote engagement with IEB-aligned learning outcomes and best practices.

• Use modern educational tools, including Google Workspace for Education and MS Office.

• Participate actively in the school’s co-curricular and sports programmes.

• Contribute meaningfully to school initiatives aligned with the strategic imperative of “Educating for Life”.

• Model and support the school’s Christian values and ethos.

Requirements

• A relevant academic qualification in History and Education.

• Current SACE registration.

• Proven experience teaching History in a Senior School setting (IEB experience advantageous).

• Demonstrated leadership ability, preferably in a departmental or similar role.

• Strong organisational and communication skills.

• Commitment to 21st-century teaching methodologies and technology integration.

• A willingness to fully engage in school life beyond the classroom.

• Alignment with the values and Christian ethos of Kingswood College.
