The Role

Icebolethu Burial Services is looking for experienced and motivated Mortuary Supervisors to lead and oversee daily operations at our mortuary facilities. These are permanent positions suited for individuals with a strong background in funeral or mortuary services and proven leadership capabilities.

The Mortuary Supervisor will be responsible for supervising mortuary staff, ensuring the dignified and professional handling of the deceased, and maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and company standards. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the mortuary, including staff scheduling, workflow coordination, and process management.

• Supervise embalming, body preparation, and storage processes to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.

• Ensure proper documentation and handling of the deceased in accordance with legal and company protocols.

• Maintain a hygienic, respectful, and organised work environment.

• Train and support mortuary staff on procedures, standards, and customer care practices.

• Conduct routine audits and inspections to uphold health and safety compliance.

• Liaise with families, funeral coordinators, and relevant stakeholders when required.

• Manage inventory of mortuary supplies and equipment.

• Report on operational performance, incidents, and improvements.

Requirements

• Minimum Qualification:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

  • A relevant qualification in Funeral Management, Mortuary Practice, or Health Sciences is advantageous.

• Experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years experience working in a mortuary or funeral services environment.

  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Experience working in a high-pressure, customer-facing environment.

• Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid understanding of mortuary procedures, embalming, hygiene, and legal requirements.

  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety (OHS) practices.

  • Strong leadership and staff management skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability.

  • Ability to work with compassion, respect, and professionalism.

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or public holidays when required.

  • Valid driver’s license is preferred.
